What Are Handling Settings?
Handling settings control how your pieces respond to input. Tuning these is one of the most important things you can do to improve your speed.
Open Settings (gear icon) to adjust these values.
DAS - Delayed Auto Shift
Default: 167ms
DAS controls how long you must hold a direction key before the piece starts auto-repeating. Think of it as the delay before rapid movement begins.
- Lower DAS = piece starts moving faster after you hold a key
- Higher DAS = longer delay before auto-repeat kicks in
- Competitive players typically use 80-133ms
- Too low can cause accidental movements (misdrop)
ARR - Auto Repeat Rate
Default: 33ms
ARR controls how fast the piece moves once auto-repeat has started. This is the interval between each repeated movement.
- Lower ARR = faster repeated movement
- Higher ARR = slower repeated movement
- Many competitive players use 0ms (instant) for instant movement to walls
- With 0ms ARR, holding left/right teleports the piece to the wall
SDF - Soft Drop Factor
Default: 20x
SDF is a multiplier on gravity speed when holding the soft drop key.
- Higher SDF = faster soft drop
- SDF 41+ (Instant) = piece teleports to the bottom instantly (sonic drop)
- Competitive players typically use Instant (41+)
Recommended Settings by Skill Level
| Level | DAS | ARR | SDF |
|---|---|---|---|
| Beginner | 167ms | 33ms | 20x |
| Intermediate | 120ms | 15ms | 30x |
| Advanced | 100ms | 0ms | Instant |
| Pro | 80ms | 0ms | Instant |
Tips
- Change one setting at a time and play a few games to adjust
- Start by lowering ARR - this has the biggest impact on speed
- If you are getting lots of misdrops, your DAS might be too low
- Instant SDF is almost always better once you are comfortable with it
